Easter Joy Hampers Project

Easter comes at a hopeful time of the year, and that optimism is a great opportunity to share the message of hope to struggling members of society. Therefore in conjunction with this Easter’s celebration, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Johor Bahru galvanised donors and volunteers to serve under the Easter Joy Hampers Project to spread the joy of Easter to our friends-in-need (Fins). This project was organised to support families and elderly persons facing financial difficulties by giving them needed provisions, each given in packed hampers worth about RM200 each.

The project, which initially aimed for 50 hampers, was expanded to 135 hampers due to the generosity of donors here and even from our neighbours in Singapore. This enabled an outreach to more Fins from the parishes in South Johor Vicariate including the Church of Immaculate Conception JB, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Skudai Catholic Centre, St Joseph Plentong, Holy Family Church Ulu Tiram and St. Theresa Masai served by the respective SSVP and POHDs. In all, more than 40 members of the parishes volunteered and helped in the packing and distribution of the hampers.

Following the hamper distributions, the families were very grateful to receive the provisions as it helps to ease their daily living burdens. We are thankful to our generous donors and volunteers for enabling the spread of this simple joy this Easter as servants and representatives of the resurrected Christ. May God bless all abundantly.
