Youth & Campus Ministry Officers Changes in Melaka-Johor Youth Office
At the same time, it welcomes Calvin Ohsey who will serve in the Campus Ministry. Calvin comes from Bau, Sarawak and is a fresh graduate. Having once declined Deacon Adrian’s offer for the cooperate world, he accepted it after a second invitation.
Calvin has been involved in campus ministry for 5 years. He has served in the Catholic Varsity Students Fellowship of UiTM Shah Alam (CVS) in the Ministry of Faith and Ministry of Publicity and Webmaster; and in Young Catholic Undergraduate (YCU) in UiTM Kota Samarahan in the Prayer Warrior Ministry and as Vice President II.
Says Calvin, “During my campus life, my concerns were the Catholic students’ lack of faith and spiritual knowledge, lack of involvement in social action and attraction of an abusive hedonistic secular culture”.
Calvin is well read and echoes the sentiments of Pope Francis that “Youth ministry, as traditionally organised, has also suffered the impact of social changes. Young people often fail to find responses to their concerns, needs, problems and hurts in the usual structures.” (Evangelii Gaudium, 105).
Calvin adds, “I personally think there are a lot things that need to be done in this regard. Instead of preparing the young to be the leaders for the church in the future, why not we make them the leaders for today? Starting from the family to the church, campus life and then throughout the earth, we hope more missionaries will be raised up who will carry Jesus in their lives, sanctifying the world and making it a better place. Finally, I ask a favour of you: please pray for me and the ministry in Melaka Johor Diocese”.
