The Malacca Johore Diocesan Ministry for Creation Justice launched the Protect Our Earth, Protect Our Children (PROTEC) Campaign year 3, with the theme Stop Plastic Pollution. This is the third of a five-year campaign which will go on from 1st Sep 2022 to 31st August.
The campaign was launched on 16th Sep 2022, during the Mass celebrated for Hari Malaysia at the Church of St Theresa Masai, followed by a “Go Green Carnival” with workshop on bio-enzyme making, workshop on composting, jumble sale of preloved goods and sales of food and drinks.
Spiritual director Monsignor Fr Michael M was the main celebrant, concelebrated the mass with Fr Paul Sia (assistant priest of the host church), Fr Lawrence Ng (Parish Priest of Skudai Catholic Center), and Fr Joe Matthews (assistant priest of Church of Christ the King, Kulai), attended by almost 300 parishioners. The mass and launch were also live streamed https://youtu.be/y95epI6YJhw .
Parish priests from Sacred Heart Cathedral, Church of Immaculate Conception JB, Church of Christ the King Kulai, Skudai Catholic Center, Church of St Theresa Masai, Church of Holy Family Ulu Tiram, Church of St Louis Kluang, Church of St Andrew Muar, Church of St Francis Xavier Malacca, and Church of St Theresa Malacca sent representatives to witness this event and to receive banners and posters of the PROTEC year 3 campaign.
In conjunction with this launch, a set of “GUIDELINES FOR FOOD CATERING IN THE PARISH” approved by his lordship Bishop Bernard Paul was announced. It is hope that these guidelines will further support parishes to reduce the amount of plastics use at events. Parishioners were invited to build the culture of BYOCC – Bring Your Own Container & Cutlery everywhere you go. In his speech, His Lordship ended with a CALL to “think clean, be clean and keep clean”.
The Church of St Theresa Masai (CSTM) has been organizing “Go Green Carnival” annually on Hari Malaysia since 2018 interrupted by COVID pandemic in 2020 and 2021. This year was their “Go Green Carnival 4.0”. The diocesan committee is very grateful for the generosity of the CSTM parish priest, Fr Adrian Francis Mathews, and his team led by Irene Mirandah in sharing their Go Green event with the diocesan team, providing us a platform to celebrate the Launch of PROTEC year 3 in a fun filled way!
